Every once in a while, we met people who, after spending time with them, encourage us to reflect on who we are as individuals and, for those of us that are in relationships, as couples. This couple made me do just that.

They are very confident in who they are as people, and comfortable in who they are with each other. They are very laid back and have a relaxed, simple way about them.

The love they have for each other is obvious...especially in the moments when no one is looking.

The hall was beautifully decorated with fresh cut flowers in cream cans and mason jars and there were strings of lights hanging from a wood fence behind the head table. It felt like we were in someone's backyard...it felt like home.

I could not resist taking a quick shot of this young beauty! She is the bride's sister, and also goes to school with my youngest son. She apparantly has seen the red chair before and wanted a picture in it! You're gorgeous Megs!

I have been trying to find the right time to test this shot, and the girls were more than happy to help me out. On a side note, the gorgeous dresses were made by one of the bridesmaids.

Another beautiful day with another beautiful couple...is my life tough or what! Once again, we had the honor of photographing a couple with whom we have a connection with the newlyweds, as well as their family.

I have known Sarah's mom...well since I was a lot younger than what I am now, and John works with her at the college. Also, I worked with Sarah's sister in health care.

We were thrilled and honored that Sarah and Cory asked us to share their day with them, and we had a wonderful time capturing all the special moments they shared throughout the day.

Moms are a very special breed of people. Morgan & Stan's moms are incredibly loving women who truly adore their children.

Morgan's mom works with John at the college and always has a smile on her face...and candy on her desk :) She would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it.

I have had the pleasure of working with Stan's mom throughout the years, and she would do anything for you, including showing up to help the best man fix a minor problem with his dress pants :)

Stan's mom is also a wonderful cake decorator!

Our greatest wish for the two of you is that as the years go on, your love for each other will deepen and grow, and that you will look back on your wedding day as the day you loved each other the least.

A few weeks back we met up with one of our couples that are getting married in 2011.
Meet Dustin and Carrissa!!

We decided a good spot to begin our shoot was out at Dustin's parents farm. All I can say is WOW!! what a lovely yard, from the buildings to the trees to the horses they had. There was no shortage in backdrops for this lovely couple.

One of the first places we decided to set up at was this great barn, on closer inspection we noticed this horseshoe nailed to the wall. We decided that this was a good omen.(horseshoe's are good luck right?)

As we were taking this shot there were a number of very impatient and hungry horses who had decided FOOD FIRST...PICTURES SECOND. who are we to argue Ha Ha!

This next shot was one that Carrissa's mom wanted as she thought it represented the beginning of their life together. We couldn't agree more. Just in the time we spent getting to know this couple we thought their future looks pretty bright.

Red Deer Wedding Photographer | Crystal Gayle & Kevin ~ July 31, 2010

You may remember this beautiful couple from their Engagement Session.

This wedding was unique in so many ways. From the Roman theme...Togas provided...to the way the groom proposed, to the bride serenading the groom during the reception, it never fell short of romantic.

Meet Crystal Gayle & Kevin

The Groom

When Kevin decided he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Crystal Gayle, he wrote a book entitled "Love Story..as being written by Kevin Hallet & Crystal Gayle Garnett".

The book consisted of 10 chapters that described different stages in their relationship from their first meeting all the way to the proposal. He left each chapter along a trail of rose pedals that lead to their bedroom door. The last chapter entitled "The Proposal" contain some words from the song Taylor Swift song "Love Story":

Marry me, Crystal Gayle, you'll never have to be alone.
I love you, and that's all I really know.
I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress,
It's a love story, baby just say yes

The Bride

Crystal Gayle had her way of showing Kevin how much she loves him. As a surprise to Kevin, Crystal serenaded him with a beautiful song entitled "Only You Can Love Me This Way" by Keith Urban.

Crystal Gayle's dad had previously told us that she has sang at weddings in the past, but this heartwarmning display of love brought tears to the entire crowd...including me!

We sat down with Crystal Gayle before the ceremony to get a little background information on how her and Kevin met. She told us that they both played volleyball in a city league. She saw him a few times, and thought he was pretty cute.

During speeches, Kevin sent out a special thank you to his volleyball team for being so bad because if it wasn't for that they never would have dropped down a division, and he wouldn't have ended up playing in the same one as Crystal Gayle.

After a few phone calls, Kevin convinced Crystal Gayle to play on the same team, and the rest is what they call history!

I have had the pleasure of photographing these two cuties a couple of times over the years, so when my friend Crystal asked me to take some more, of course I jumped all over it. She brought them out to the farm and we got to work!

Saige wanted a picture of her boots because they are starting to get too small for her to wear.

I giggled to myself when Kasen stated...with a serious face...that he wanted a picture of his bum in his Wranglers and Chaps. This boy LOVES his Wranglers!!

So, I mentioned that Saige and Kasen had some ideas of their own for this shoot. Well, Crystal had mentioned to me that the kids wanted to take a picture of them fencing. Now, the first thing that goes through my head is that they want to do some kind of sword fight. I was wrong! They ACTUALLY wanted to fence!!

Myrnam Engagement Photographer | Candice & Curtis ~ Home on the Farm

It has been a crazy couple of weeks for us...in a good way...and we have met some amazing people.

Let me introduce you to two of them...Candice & Curtis.

Recently, we travelled to Curtis' family farm near Myrnam to shoot their Engagement Session. The fields were blooming nicely, and the clouds were rolling in...as usual!!

Between the fields and old buildings, we were not lacking in beautiful locations.

Curtis and Candice took us for a little drive to show us what they called their own little Sherwood Forest. I have to agree that they have their own little slice of heaven.

Curtis's twin brother was kind enough to stop hauling bails for a few minutes so we could get some shots of the couple on the tractor.

There is always something special about this time of evening. Not sure if it's the calmness or the warm light as the sun sets, but it makes for great pictures.

We want to send a special thanks out to Curtis' mom for the coffee, treats, and wonderful visit after the session was over. We look forward to spending the day with all of you in 2011!

Two Hill Engagement Photographer | Coral & Troy ~ Love in the Countryside

The canola fields were in bloom, so we headed out to Two Hills for one of our 2011 couple's Engagement Session. We had been dodging some nasty weather in the days leading up to this session, so we were very thankful to have sunshine!

St. Paul Area Wedding Photographer | Travis & Danielle ~ July 10,2010

On July 10th we headed to St.Paul for Travis and Danielle's wedding and although the Weather Network was was telling us otherwise, we had a spectacular day for a wedding!!

We started our day as we usually do for a wedding with a few shots of the wedding dress. It was a beautiful dress by the way!

And a shot of the bride's shoes.

After the ceremony we headed outside on the church grounds for some family pictures and a few of Travis and Danielle. We wanted to use the brick on the church walls as Danielle is a HUGE fan of texture in her pictures. I agree totally, texture just adds so much character to a picture.

We asked Travis to join Danielle for a picture against the wall and to give her a *SMOOCH*. He happily agreed....to give his new wife a fish lip kiss!! As you can tell this couple were alot of fun. We enjoyed every minute of taking their wedding pictures!!

This was a shot that we having been dying to try out but it has to be the right location for a shot like this. Today was the day. As we were rushing to leave the church grounds (another wedding was starting soon) we almost forgot to stop to get this shot and had to get the ushers to close the church doors while we quickly set up and took the shot. I am so glad we stopped as the picture turned out great!!

One of the other locations that we stopped at was this B-E-A-UTIFUL canola field. We took a picture as Danielle waded her way into the field to meet up with her new husband Travis.

And then got them to pose for us. Okay we got them to *SMOOCH* again. I don't think they had a problem with it do you?

Vermilion Graduation Photographer | "The Boys of 2010"

I was thrilled to be invited to capture some photos of these great boys as they celebrate a huge milestone in their lives....Graduation!!

I have known the first two boys for a number of years because they attend St. Jerome's School where my kids attend as well. My oldest son has played both Volleyball and Basketball with them, and I still find it hard to believe they are old enough to be venturing off in to the world on their own.

Along with Conor, Curtis was part of the St. Jerome's Basketball team that hosted Provincials this year, and participated in Provincials two years ago along with my son Marcus.

Meet John

I photographed his older brother James last year, and am amazed at the talent these boys have. I could not believe my ears when John sat down with his guitar during our session. It was not that I couldn't believe how well he played, it was the fact that he hasn't had a lesson...he taught himself to play.

The sun was just starting to go down when our session was winding down, so it gave me an opportunity to try and capture some of the warm colors.

John also loves to rope.

When we met with this amazing couple about their wedding, we were instantly taken with them. They were so connected to one another, and their personalities had a sense of "calm"...if that makes sense!

I was extremely excited to find out that they are both teachers, and that they wanted to take their engagement pictures in the school where they both work. It took some searching, but we managed to find some actual chalkboards to work with!

Shawn and Melissa are big fans of Robert Munsch and his books.

"Love You Forever" is a personal favorite of Melissa and her mom's. It is a book that I remember reading to my kids when they were babies as well.

Earlier this month, Melissa and Shawn jetted off to Japan where they will be teaching for a year.

We hope they have a wonderful experience in Japan, and look forward to sharing their special day with them next summer!!

This year, John and I have been blessed with some fabulous couples, which in turn has lead to some fabulous weddings.

On many occasions, I have said that each wedding offers something unique...something special. In this case there were so many, I'm not sure where to start.

So, let's start with Kari's shoes...

Kari had a fabulous pair of hot pink stiletto shoes that on any other day would have been the center of attention. But today, they were overshadowed by this lovely looking couple.

As we got to know this couple better, we couldn't help thinking to ourselves that they compliment each other in so many ways. This is something that will last a lifetime...as long as they don't discuss baseball, but I'll talk about that a bit later.

Back to the couple.

Before the wedding, Kari was a little nervous, but what bride isn't on one of the most important days of her life.

On her wedding day, she absolutely glowed and all eyes were on her!

Kari was surrounded by some stunning women on her special day.

Did I mention that those amazing shoes were "Barbie" shoes...SWEEEETTT!!!

Derrick, on the other hand, has been cool and collected through everything!

One of the things about Derrick that we noticed was his connection to family.

On the head table there was a statue of Dan Marino. When we asked what the significance was, Derrick replied that it was the only team/player that his dad Keith and he agreed on! We thought that was a pretty cool way to honor his dad!

One of our favorite shots was actually the last shot of the day before heading to reception. Derrick had an idea of a shot where the guys would walk down the street and act natural. We asked if he meant like Entourage...so, this shot was born!

What makes this picture funny is that as John walked backwards down the street, the guys were "discussing" who was who in the picture...Vince, Drama, Turtle, Ari & E. Very few shots turned out because John was laughing too hard.

One of the first things we noticed when we arrived at the hall was the cake. This was the first time that Derrick and Kari had seen their cake as well, and I think it turned out amazing!

The next thing I noticed was the centerpieces. Remember when I mentioned baseball earlier? Well, Derrick is a Blue Jays fan and Kari is a HUGE Red Sox fan...HUGE!!

On their honeymoon, they were headed to San Francisco to see the sights and the Red Sox were in town, so they were headed to the game as well!

Derrick & Kari...we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for inviting us to share your day with you! We felt like part of the family, and had so much fun!

We wish you nothing but love and happiness for years to come!!

Oh ya, did I mention Kari`s shoes!!

On June 12th 2010, we had the honor of photographing Rochelle and Kris' Wedding, and what a beautiful day it was!

They say the key to making a marriage last a lifetime is to marry your best friend. Well, Rochelle and Kris can truly say that they did exactly that. What started out as friendship, blossomed into a deep affection for each other. However when Kris asked Rochelle out the first time she turned him down fearing it would ruin her friendship with him. Over time Rochelle began to realize that she was in fact falling for Kris but after turning him down before found herself in a dilemma....How do I get him ask me out again? Little sis Amanda to the rescue. She told Kris that she was leaving the room and he had exactly five minutes to ask Rochelle out...the rest they say is history.

Every wedding has that certain something that makes it unique, in this case it was Rochelle's bouquet. Not the flowers but the ribbons hanging from the bouquet with pictures that represented their Grandparents that had passed away .

We took the formal photo's in Rochelle's Parents back yard. It was so beautiful, you could tell alot of work and love went into making it the perfect spot for Rochelle and Kris' photos.

Recently, I was invited out to capture a very important milestone in Amie and Chantal's lives!

She was definitely on the shy side when we started, but it didn't take long for her natural sweetness to come out.

One of the first thing that I noticed about Aime was her captivating eyes and bright smile!

Meet the always gorgeous Chantal. She is a classic beauty!

I have had the priviledge of taking her dance pictures the past couple of years, so I was very excited to be asked to capture her in her graduation gown.

She let me try something different to show off her train.

And of course, The Weather Network was correct when it said it would rain around the time we were taking pictures for Chantal.

We have been out to An Intimate Garden Bed & Breakfast a few times to take pictures, but always when there was snow on the ground. So we were thrilled when the owners asked us to capture some family shots for them, and give us an opportunity to see how wonderful this place is in full spring bloom.

They have been running the Bed & Breakfast for over a year now, and I have never seen such a beautiful home and yard! Its tucked away 10km West of Lloydminster, and then 11km South on RR20, and it is so peaceful there! Check it out!

We have been waiting for a couple to do "The Reveal" for a while now, so we were thrilled when "C & M" gave us the opportunity to capture these moments.

We had "M" wait in the clearing as "C" walked up the path to meet him.

We were so touched when we realized that the bride wore her Grandmother's wedding ring on a bracelet!

It was obvious to us that the love these two share for each other runs very deep. They value each other, as well as their families and friends.

The Bride and Bridesmaids bought matching umbrellas just in case it rained. We didn't need them, but they sure are colorful!

Why not? Guys need protection from the rain too!

We took all the pictures at Weaver Park/Barr Colony where there were endless spots to have a little fun.

Finding My Way

I have had a revelation. Lately, I have been struggling with finding where I am supposed to be personally and professionally.

I have been trying to keep my family, friends, and part-time job all in line, but have not been very successful. Most of all, I have not been able to focus on what I am most passionate about...my photography.

So I decided it was time to take control. The first step was to quit my part time job and focus on the important things in my life....my family and my photography! Without the love and support of my husband John, I would not be where I am today. He believes in me. He believes that I can do anything I set my mind to. He believes that I am worthy.

This past week, I travelled down to Newport Beach, CA to attend Escalate Live 2010. Escalate Live was a photography conference designed to help photographers bring their visions into reality. This 2 day seminar could not have come at a better time for me. I was in need of a bit of a recharge so to speak.

There were 8 amazing speakers touching on topics such as Collaboration, Branding, Social Media, and a sneak peek at Photoshop CS5. I was particularly excited to hear from 2 of the speakers ~ Jasmine Star @jasminestar and Jessica Claire @jessicaclaire. I have followed their work since the beginning of my journey.

I want to touch on a few points that really stuck out for me. Things that made me want to change the way I am both professionally and personally.

Dane Sanders @danesanders

Dane discussed how "Collaboration is a Conversation". We have to be truly engaged, be willing to speak the truth, and actually want the best for the other person. We have to make a decision about whether or not we want people around us that don't follow the same guidelines. Be true...but not just for you!

[b] Becker @thebecker

Becker offered some keys to success. (1) Have an open mind, (2) have a positive attitude, (3) participate, and (4) take action. It doesn't matter what camera you shoot with or what lenses you use, as long as you're committed to providing the best possible experience to your clients. Word of mouth goes a lot further than advertising. There is so much business out there, you don't need to keep things close to your chest. Helping other photographers goes a long way. We need to learn to lift them up, not push them down.

Jasmine Star @jasminestar

I just want to start off by saying that I LOVE Jasmine Star! I never got an opportunity to speak with her at Escalate...#1 because she was soooo popular and seemed to always be surrounded by her fans, and #2 because I was a tad bit shy.

I was touched by her speech, and am amazed at her level of openness! She says that your business should be built on YOU, not your pictures. Pictures are good, but YOU are what gets YOU to the pictures. Going out of your way to be nice to someone is the best way of Social Media. You have to be open to putting your true self out there, but also be prepared for the backlash that comes with it. You can always live your life with "could have/would have/should have" going through your head, but you will never be happy.

Jerry was amazing!! He really opened my eyes to the things that I have forgotten about. The fact that you have to bring out the best in yourself before you can bring out the best in your photos. You photograph the way your are as a person. If you are a fun, positive person your pictures will show it. You have to believe in yourself before you can believe in your clients. If you want to be one of the greats....BE YOURSELF. You can tell someone is an amazing photographer by their attitude.

A few words that stuck out during his presentation:

"Don't be intimidated, be inspired"

"You don't have to be the best...you just have to be better than you were the week before"

"Your biggest fear shouldn't be of dying...your fear should be that your aren't living"

I was especially touched by the charity dedicated to caring for poor, homeless and orphan children in third world countries that Jerry has founded The Soul Society. It is amazing to see people give back!

Jessica was wonderful! She walked us through her creative process from start to finish. A few points that stuck out in my mind revolved around the intent behind your images.

Strive to capture images that your clients will LOVE. It is different every time. They may not be images that you personally love, but it is what your client wants.

Provide your clients with a wonderful experience.

Capture images for your future clients. These are for clients that may not exist yet, but you hope to get in the future. They may not be the favs of your current client, but may peek the interest of potential clients.

Capture images for your personal satisfaction. These are experimental images that are primarily for you. They are "tests" for future shoots.

When walking in to a shoot, you should always have an intention. Having an actual plan of how you want the day to go helps you get the shots you want/need.

Every word that came out of this man's mouth was inspirational to me. I had the pleasure of having a conversation with him during lunch on the second day of the seminar. He was truly focused on our conversation, and I felt like he really cared about what I was saying to him.

I know that I sometimes get down on myself, and start to think that I am not good enough. One of the things David stated during his presentation was that we all have people in our lives trying to hold us back or telling us that we can't do it. We need to remove these kinds of people from the equation before you start to doubt your abilities.

He encourages us to get involved in what other people are doing. Comment on their blogs & pictures. This is how you get people to notice you. We all need to take the time to stop and pay attention. If you truly take the time to encourage someone else, it will better them as well as you.

What do you do when you don't know where to go next? David encouraged us to find your vision, purpose, and meaning. Also, find the passion so that you can be with those you love. Encouraging others is what is going to help you regain your passion and focus.

"Be yourself...everyone else is taken".

I have to admit, I was quite excited when I found that Jeremy was a "Celebrity Photography". Knowing that he had photographed artists such as Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood, Sting, and Taylor Swift. His client list also includes Warner Brothers Records, Universal Records, People Magazine, and FOX. Impressive, right? I found it even more impressive to hear that Jeremy considers himself to be in the same boat as the rest of us...photographers trying to find direction and inspiration.

Some of the steps to personal inspiration can be as simple as creating space and time to be creative. Time to think, transform, and not be interrupted.

Try and get out and look at other industries. Talk to people who inspire you and ask questions.

The one that I am putting first on my list is to build an inspiration wall. Write down the things that you are passionate about in life. Things that bring you joy and happiness.

Make time for personal development. Quite often I find myself falling in to the same routines, same poses, and same editing techniques. Test shots are good for pushing your limits. This time allows you to try new things creatively.

The end of Jeremy's presentation had me in tears. Seeing the images from his work in Haiti after the earthquake broke my heart. The way he captured the suffering of these people was truly inspirational. He wanted these people to have a voice,and he gave them just that.

In addition to the images, he showed a video clip of his Help Portrait project. This is a non-profit organization that gathers photographers within their communities and allows them photograph the homeless, orphans, single parents and their kids, sick children, sick parents, the elderly, and underprivileged families.

On the plane home from Newport Beach, my mind was going a 100 mls/hr. I couldn't wait to get back and share what I had learned with John. This experience was a definite eye opener for me, and I look forward to taking all I learned and put it to good use. I look forward to making connections with my clients on a whole new level. It has helped me realize that I am good at what I do, and nothing anyone else says or does will change that.

I'm Back!! It has been a while...2 1/2 months to be exact...since I blogged. There have been some activity happening with us (more on that in another post)!

Back in February we met up with C & M for their Engagement session. We travelled to a beautiful bed & breakfast located just outside of Lloydminster. We have visited "An Intimate Garden B&B" before for a family session, and were thrilled to return there.

Seeing how we took the pictures when the Olympics were just starting, we thought a shot with the infamous mittens was only fitting!

This is a photo shoot that has been about a year in the making. We knew that as soon as Rick bought Cheri her bike last year that this was a shoot that we HAD to do!

Some of you may remember this next couple from their Engagement Session back in October.

It was a VERY hot day when we joined "D & J" for their wedding. The ceremony took place outside in the bride's parents gorgeous yard.

Everyone has their own rituals for their wedding day.

The bride...she gets her hair done, relaxes with her bridesmaids, and sees to last minute details.

The groom....usually gets ready about an hour before the ceremony, but not before he sits around watching movies, or in this case....played a round of golf with his groomsmen.

"D & J" had a few surprises in store for each other on their wedding day.

"D" arriving to the ceremony in a beautiful horse drawn carriage...something that was kept secret from everyone except her parents...we didn't even know until a week before the wedding.

"J" was pleasantly surprised to say the least.

"J" trying to hold back the emotions.

"J" had a surprise for his beautiful bride as well.

Before the wedding, he took her ring in to get soldered together. She didn't know until he slipped the ring on her finger was that he also "pimped" the diamond!

These acts of love show how committed to one another this couple is!

Last weekend we made the short trip to Lloydminster to witness the joining of "M & G" in marriage. After a beautiful service, we headed to G's Family Farm to take some pictures.

Now for those of you that know me, I always check the weather network before we shoot weddings, just to make sure we don't have to use the "backup location". I mean I get down to hourly!! When we left the church, I looked at the sky and started to think that the sunny forecast that it said was WAY off base. My fingers...and toes....were crossed, praying that it would hold off for just an hour or so.

I never realized how fast time was passing by until I started taking Grad pictures this year. It is hard to believe that all the kids (yes, kids!) that we photographed are old enough to venturing off on their own.

Take "M" for example. When I received that call from his mom and dad asking us to take his graduation pictures, I couldn't help but to think back to when he was 5 or 6 years old running around on the soccer field.

We wish him nothing but the best in the future! Enjoy life....it goes by VERY fast!!

Apparantly, dress shoes are not the shoe of choice these days...another example of how old I am getting!!

Recently, we headed down to Hawerlak Park in Edmonton to take some Engagement/Family pictures for John & Cindy. They are very comfortable with each other, laid back, and an enjoyable couple to spend time with.

We decided to take a stroll around the pond, and just take pictures when it felt right. There was lots of beautiful scenary, and even a gaggle of ducklings (I think there were about 20 of them) swimming around the pond. It was a great way to spend an afternoon.

We are looking forward to their wedding in July!

For those of you that know us, or have read my previous posts, our son Marcus is graduating from High School this coming weekend. So we thought it would be a good idea to start taking the grad pictures ahead of time, that way we could have more time on Graduation Day to enjoy the celebration!

After taking about a zillion pictures of Nathan smiling with his mouth closed, I decided that I wanted to actually see his teeth. I called in the big guns to try and make him laugh....John! After a few jokes and constant baggering, his response was "what do you people want from me?!?" Got the shot though!

Then we came to our nephew. I asked Brad (who's a bit of a ham to begin with) to quote "Show me your BEST moves"....this is what I got! I really need to work on my directions!!

I knew this day would come...I thought I was ready for it...I was wrong! This is the year that our oldest son Marcus graduates, and ventures out in to the real world.

I have watched these kids grow up. I watched them go on their Kindergarten tours, make Mother's Day bouquets, and listened to their screams when some of them thought they saw a cougar on their Grade 11 Retreat.

It is hard to think of them as grown up enough to be taking care of themselves, but they are. I look forward to watching each and every one of them walk across the stage on June 6th to receive their diplomas.

After flipping through my calendar today, I realized that I’m BOOKED up with 2009 Weddings until October! We continue to be amazed with how fast this adventure has taken off. We have some great weddings booked with some wonderful couples, and we’re so excited to get out there to capture the love & joy in the months ahead! As well, we have started booking dates for the 2010 Wedding Season!!

We are very excited to be revealing our new website sometime in early summer. In addition, our packages are being revamped and prices are changing as we are offering some exciting products to our wedding packages. These prices will NOT take effect until June 1st. The Reason

Very often we(Tami & myself) get asked the questions,Why are you Photographers? and How long have you been doing it? Legitimate questions for a potential client, I mean you want someone who knows what their doing right?

Well to answer those questions....Tami's photography came from the birth of our first child 17 yrs ago and being a new mother, the need to document EVERYTHING. her first camera was a Canon eos 35mm SLR that I had bought for her as a birthday/mothers day present. Let me tell you it was a shaky...blurry beginning. But, over time and hundreds of rolls of film later, Tami was producing some quality images. I'm not saying this because I'm her husband, those observations came from the people around her, family , friends and even strangers. Her pictures always had something a little extra and she's been complimented by fellow photographers,saying that she had"the eye". I'm not sure what that means exactly, but every photographer whose work I admire has that certain something. I remember reading somewhere that "a photograph is a reflection of who you are as a human, not the machine that you use to create them". I think that's the difference between people who take pictures and photographers.

My own beginnings are not quite as interesting, when we decided to make a go of things a couple of years back, there were times when Tami needed a second shooter, So I learned. I'm not going to lie to you, I'm more of a computer geek and my focus is more on the editing of the images, but I can feel my passion growing and I'm getting better.

With all my ramblings I'm not sure I've answered both questions. I think I've covered the who but not the how long, so I'll give you the short answer....Bliss photography is a home based professional photography business that was formed in 2007. Was that sterile enough? One of the inside jokes I share with a few close friends is my distain for usage of the third person to describe one's self. I don't think I'm alone on that one either.

Are we Professionals? when asked that very question my answer would have to be.....yes...and no.By definition a professional is someone who does something for money. We do get paid to do what we do.....however an amateur is someone who works for the love of it rather than for money. By definition we ARE professionals, but our hearts are amateurs, we do this because we love it. Choosing to remain an amateur is no measurement of your skill or commitment to the craft. I hope this helps you understand who we are and why we do this. If you wonder where the name came from, It's the best word to describe the feeling we want you feel when you view your pictures for the first time.

Vermilion Wedding Photographer | "El Capo" Captured!!

On December 31, 2008 at approximately 1830 hrs, Eden "El Capo" Haubrich was captured by rookie Constable Dustin Molineux at the Clandonald Community Hall.

There was a hall full of locals who witnessd Molineux's greatest apprehension including the infamous "Clandino Clan". Molineux had been tracking Haubrich all the way from Minot, North Dakota across the Canadian Prairies before receiving a Crime Stoppers tip that she would be dressed to kill and waiting to walk down the White Mile.

Haubrich and 8 members of the "Clandino Clan" are cooling their heels in the clink!

All kidding aside, one of the things that we like to do with our wedding parties, is try and have a little bit of fun! Just a way to help them blow off a little bit of steam after a long day!!

All I have to say is....what an amazing year 2008 has been!! When I started on this adventure with my VERY loving and supportive husband, I never imagined in a million years that it would ever be this fulfilling. I am grateful for all of the adventures and accomplishments of 2008 and hope 2009 brings much happiness, peace and love to everyone.

In celebration of a wonderful year, we thought it would be fitting that we would start off 2009 the same way we started 2008...with the amazing Dustin and Eden!! Their New Year's Eve Wedding was absolutely beautiful, and we feel very blessed that they asked us to share in their special day, and wish them all the best!!

Robin is my dearest friend in the whole world, and I love any opportunity I get to spend some time with her. So we headed down to Stettler to take some pics and help celebrate Ryley's Birthday!

Vermilion Alberta Photographer | A Fox on the Loose in Vegas!!

This post is about ummm...4 months OVERDUE!!! In July, I hopped on a plane and headed down to Vegas to compete in the Women's Trifitness Competition with my BFF Robin. Although my competition ended after I lost a fight with a Hurdle during the Obstacle Course, Robin did AWESOME in all events...including the Figure portion (which I definitely DID NOT even think about doing!!). Robin is the best friend anyone could ever ask for, and am very thankful to have her in my life! I was honored to take pictures of her in her bikini and VERY high heels!!

The pictures were taken outside of the Monte Carlo Casino, and she stopped traffic...literally...while posing in front of one of the many water fountains!! By the time we finished the photo shoot, we had between 40 & 50 spectators who stopped their tour bus in the middle of the street to pile off and catch a glimpse of a "FOX" (direct quote from one of them!)

The trees are bare & the leaves are blowing away, so that means the opportunities to take Fall Pictures is slowly coming to an end.

At the beginning of October, we headed down to the park to take some family shots of our niece Erinn, her hubby Duane, and the awesome Baldwin kidlets...Braden, Joshua, and Katie. Everytime I get around these guys, I wish I could bottle up their energy and use it on the days I just don't feel like doing anything.

There was a lot of running, leaf fights (which lead to a little dirt in the eye...Thanks Uncle John), and endless trips down the slide. We loved spending the afternoon with you guys!!

Hideaway at the Lake

Thanksgiving weekend is always full of giving thanks, eating turkey, and spending time with family. On Thanksgiving Monday, we made the trek up to Laurier Lake and spent part of the afternoon with the "H-B-M" families taking pictures by the lake and in the leaves. Then we had the pleasure of joining them for a weiner roast to clean up the food that no one wanted to take home with them.

We really enjoyed spending time out at the lake with all of you!! Thanks for the COSTCO sized hotdogs!!

I love sunsets!! I will take every opportunity to take pictures as the sun is going down that I can.

On October 9th, we met with J & D for their E-Session, and had an absolute blast! We spent some time in the down in the park, on the swings (they are swing people!) at the playground, and by the Trout Pond where we got some awesome silouette shots as the sun sank in to the river valley.

On October 1st, we were invited to spend some time down at the Provincial Park with the S Family. The leaves are starting to fall from the trees fast, so we had to take a short nature walk to find a spot with a little color. We absolutely love input from our clients, so when this couple's young son scouted out his OWN locations for some shots, we were all too happy to accommodate because we all know how hard it can be to get children to "pose" long enough to get just one picture!

We really enjoyed our time together...maybe next time we can go for milkshakes with you for being so good!!

P & C - September 27, 2008

Most of our friends, family, and clients know that this is our first year photographing weddings. Recently, we had the opportunity to shoot P & C's wedding in Edmonton where we had our first experience with "jockeying for position". Our couple choose to have their formals taken at the Alberta Royal Museum with shots taken with the River Valley in the background.

When we arrived, there was a ceremony that had just ended, so we thought we were going to be good to go! We thought one other wedding party to work around would be no problem. Being from small town Vermilion, we weren't counting on 9 (no that is not a typo) other wedding parties showing up within 10 minutes of us arriving there!! When my husband asked one of the photographers that was waiting to move in to the location we were using if this was busy, the guy said that it was actually SLOW for a Saturday!!

Even with all the traffic, we had a blast and the view was spectacular! It was definitely a memorable experience for a couple of Freshman Photographers!!

For those of you who have been keeping up with my blog, you may recognize J & C from their Engagement Session at the Legislature Building. We had a great time with them then, and this past weekend at their wedding in Lloydminster was no different!! We had a blast with the wedding party...what a cast of characters!!

Weddings always have family that come from all over to help celebrate with the happy couple, but the cool thing about this one was that it had guests from 7 different Provinces and Territories!! One of the things that I like most about shooting weddings is seeing two families come together as if they have been that way all along. I am very thankful and blessed to have been included in their special day!!

This weekend we had the opportunity to take some pictures of Brett and his gorgeous girlfriend Jorie - a young couple who obviously adore each other. In a way, this session reminded me that time definitely does fly!! I have known Brett ever since he was a baby crawling around on his Grandma Hope and Papa Bob's kitchen floor wearing nothing but a tie-dye teeshirt and a diaper. My, how they grow!! Originally, this post was supposed to be about my adventures in Las Vegas at the Women's TriFitness Competition in early July. Shortly before we left, I received a phone call from the Emergency Services Technologist - Battalion 11 class about doing a photo shoot with them for a calendar they were wanting to put together. While I have not yet done something like this before, I jumped at the opportunity!

Having worked with the EST program for several years, it has been near and dear to my heart and I felt excited, scared, and honored all at the same time. I wanted to make sure to do this class proud!!

On the day of the shoot, I was not sure what to expect but the ladies and gentlemen of Battalion 11 made the day go smooth with their amazing organizational skills and enthusiasm!! They certainly have done this program proud!!

Weekend of First's

This past weekend was a fairly busy one.

It started off with a makeover for our teenage daughter, Meagan. After her Uncle Brian (my brother) past away from cancer, Meagan decided she wanted to do something help others who were suffering from the same illness. Over the past 6 years, she has grown her hair long then cut it off and donated it to the Canadian Cancer Society. In total she has donated almost 30 inches!! I have put her off of doing anything drastic to her hair for about a year now, but if you have a teenage daughter...you will understand that it eventually gets easier to give in then it is to argue!! Thanks to her Auntie Kerry Lynn for the awesome job giving her exactly what she wanted!!

Next up, we did a family session in St. Albert at the Red Willow Park with Tanya and her son Jake! Let me tell you, when he turned on his smile, he made my heart melt!!

To end the weekend, I finally had the opportunity to take pictures at the Alberta Legislature grounds, and was amazed at how beautiful it is there!! C & J were fun to work with...even after I asked them to jump in the fountain!! I can't wait for their wedding in August!!

Getting Busy....With Pictures!!

It has been a crazy month now that the snow has gone and the sun is shining! WAHOO!!

First, we travelled to Sherwood Park to take S & B's Engagement photos. It was still a bit chilly, but they were amazing to work with!! We got some amazing shots with the geese that had settled in Festival Place, and there was a whole lot of "GAZING" going on!! Looking forward to their wedding in August!!

Next, we took the short trip down to the good old Vermilion Provincial Park for an Engagement/Family session with my friend Leslie and her hubby-to-be Craig, and their two beautiful kids...Brodie and Khloe. It was a great session full of wind, bubbles, and ladybugs!!

Finally, we travelled to Wainwright for L & B's E-session. We got some great shots of the happy couple, their beautiful daughter, and some very friendly farm animals. There were a few shots that were very painful for me.....I am a huge Edmonton Oiler fan, and the groom-to-be is an equally huge Calgary Flames fan!!

Next on the agenda is St. Jerome's Grad in Vermilion, a Family Session in St. Albert, and an Engagement Session in Edmonton.

While in the city today, I stopped in for a visit with my friend Kerry-lynn, and took the opportunity to snap off a few pictures of her sweet 6 week old daughter, Brooklynn Paige. As you can see, she is an absolute beauty - just like her mommy!!
